| Case Study – Scale Model Accessories |
 |
| The business |
 |
| Finding his hobby had a ready market, Gordon Tweddle has
created a business — Scale Model Accessories — from
his interest in models and the second world war.
Selling to customers all over the world, via model fairs
and his website, he specialises in the general paraphernalia
of WW2, rather than concentrating on pure tanks and planes.
His collection includes many war vehicles, staff cars and
lorries, soldier characters and even a German field kitchen,
all presented in extensive detail in scales of 1/35, 1/72
and 1/76. His most popular product is the Mercedes Benz 1500
combat car, where he has sold over 900 units, and he increased
the range by about 20 new models each year. |

| Following detailed photographic research, pattern makers
convert Gordon’s ideas into miniature.
The master pattern in painstakingly set in Plastiline and
a two piece block mould is made using silicone
Polyurethane Resin (Fast Cast) is used to create the final
model, The resin is degassing to ensure a perfect replica
with no air bubbles is reproduced.
Careful painting creates the perfect model for advertising,
although customers always buy the models to paint and mount
themselves. |
