Anthony Rollinson is trained in both medicine and art, and
now uses both skills to commercial benefit. His business, Pharmabotics,
is one of the leaders in developing highly detailed soft tissue
models, used in clinical surgical practice throughout the world.
New body parts are developed at the rate of about one per
week, often as part of a more complex complete model for a
specific procedure. Complete new models often take up to a
year to perfect.
The masters are sculpted in clay, with rubber moulds and
casts being developed for production purposes. All prototyping,
production and assembly are done in house by a small and
highly specialist team.
The finished model often comes with replaceable elements — such
as skin — to allow multiple uses. The selection of
materials depends on the characteristics of the tissue type
and procedure; Does the tissue need to tear or bruise? How
elastic is it? Does it need to be cut or punctured? The result
is a highly realistic opportunity for clinical practice.
Comment from Jacobsons
Our wide range of different silicones gives Pharmabotics
excellent choice when developing and perfecting their very
detailed and realistic models. We are constantly looking for
new and innovative materials and Pharmabotics benefit by being
able to expand their range and different body parts that can
be made.
“We use Jacobson Chemicals
to supply all our silicones for production. They have always
been exceptionally helpful and supportive.
“We are in the process of developing
a new gynaecological model which will revolutionise the training
for many key procedures;
Silicones from Jacobsons Chemicals feature highly in its design.”
