Price and Supply Customer Notification
Price and Supply Customer Notification
As you may already be aware the chemical distribution sector has recently been experiencing significant interruptions to the supply chain. The composites industry is currently facing unprecedented raw material tensions following “Force Majeure” declared by major suppliers on the market. The direct consequences of this are supply shortages, longer delivery times and significant price increases for all raw materials.
Unfortunately, these particularly difficult and changing market conditions do not leave us any choice but to implement price increases on certain product ranges.
To date the main lines affected are general purpose (polyester) resins, gel coats and top coats, all other resin-based products and all polyurethane products including foam systems. We cannot rule out other products also being affected by these raw material shortages, but will advise you further should the need arise.
These supply issues have been compounded by the pandemic and Brexit delays in material movements, and at present we have several orders pending delivery to us. Some of these will now be subject to significant price movement, which is beyond our control.
We will endeavor to minimize delays and price increases, where possible, but as price increases come through, we will not be able to absorb these additional costs and will therefore be raising prices accordingly. We truly regret that this situation has arisen, and are aware that in these difficult times, price increases are the last thing you need, but are now unfortunately a necessity.
I would urge you to contact our sales team to discuss your ongoing material requirements and to ensure you are kept abreast of the price rises, which may apply to you, on a regular basis.
In addition, we encourage you to place all your forward orders with us as soon as possible to help us determine our stock needs for the coming weeks. We will make every effort to secure your requirements. However, we do not exclude the possibility of supplying only partial allocations of products even for confirmed orders, if stock supplies cannot be met, due to availability of raw materials. Prices for your forward orders may only be confirmed for deliveries up until the end of April as we may see the situation deteriorate further.
We would like to thank you for your loyalty and understanding. Everyone at Jacobson Chemicals will ensure that we do our utmost to continue to work with you through these unprecedented and difficult times.

Brexit Preparations January 2019
Brexit Preparations January 2019
As we move closer to the Brexit deadline date, we at Jacobson Chemicals Ltd have been monitoring the political situation, with an eye firmly on the “what if” scenario should there be a “no-deal Brexit”. Our monitoring is ongoing, and should there be any further amendments to our plans we will update you in due course.
The two main areas that we have highlighted which could give rise to concerns with our customers are:
- Administration of importing stock.
We are aware that in the event of a “no-deal”, all businesses importing from the EU will be subject to adhere to the same customs procedures as they are from importing anywhere else in the world. As we currently already import from outside the EU, we are already familiar with the documentation and processes required. We have systems in place which will ensure a smooth transition. We work closely with both manufacturers, suppliers and freight agents, who we are confident will provide any extra support should this be required. We do not anticipate any administration changes being problematic.
- Stock holdings and delays or extended lead times.
There is much concern about possible delays at ports and airports due to the possible implementation of new systems and the volume of extra work necessitated, which could impact on deliveries reaching their final destination. We are conscious that we will need to maintain adequate stocks to cover such a scenario, but must balance this against ensuring that our customers are furnished with stocks with optimum shelf life. We will be closely monitoring our stock levels over the next couple of months with a view to ensuring we have adequate quantities to cope with any anticipated delays. Our close relationships with our suppliers will be maintained and strengthened over the coming months, and stocking levels will be high priority. We will continue to prepare our contingency plans.
Anyone with any particular concerns regarding stock availability is advised to contact our Sales Team to discuss their requirements and/ or consider placing call-off orders if necessary. We will do our utmost to ensure that in the event of any anticipated delays these will be advised at the earliest opportunity.
We look forward to working with you during these uncertain times, and continuing to supply you with the same reliable service and products you have come to expect from us. We thank you for your custom, and rest assured our customers remain our priority during this time.
Yours sincerely,
Samantha Cooper

Charlie Cooper flourished as an artist
Charlie Cooper flourished as an artist whilst a student at TPS and was particularly enthused by 3D work.
He made some outstanding sculptures and was awarded an A* in his GCSE Art this summer. He has now used his skills working with fibre glass resin to produce a fabulous sculpture which is featured in the new Sculpture Garden next to the school’s Art block.
16 year-old Charlie now attends Alton College, studying a BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design, and is also working with Jacobson Chemicals Limited, a specialist chemical distributor supplying specialist materials to artists.Jacobson also play a major role in Charlie and younger brother Harvey supplying materials for the film industry.
Since completing this sculpture, Charlie has been busy sculpting similar sculptures for clients and is currently promoting himself as a young artist.
The project would not have been possible without Jacobson Chemicals and Nord Composites, who gave me free access to the materials used for the sculpture. Special thanks also to Mike Onslow, who is a local sculptor and mould maker. He was able to provide me with technical advice throughout the project, which was a great help to me. It was a fantastic project to be involved
